A wedding anniversary is an anniversary which falls on the month and day a particular wedding took place, and which recurs every subsequent year. A married couple who regard the day of their marriage as important may mark the occasion in a special way.

Anniversary Symbols

Many anniversaries have special names. It is appropraite to give wedding anniversary gifts for 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 50 and 75 years, however traditional suggestions for other years have now been added to the list. Wedding anniversaries now comprise what is referred to as the "traditional" list. Generally speaking the longer the period, the more precious and or durable the material associated with it.

Depending on national traditions this list may vary.

There exists a tradition that you would usually spend the amount that it would cost for you and or your partner to attend the wedding on the couples wedding gift. Some couples elect to use the services of a bridal gift registry, which allows you as a guest, to select a gift off this registry that the couple has chosen.
